« Ré, île nature » Exhibition

A journey deep into the heart of nature

Come and visit the Maison du Fier, a stone’s throw from the Nature Reserve.  Our museography centre is dedicated to the Ile de Ré ’s natural heritage. Owned by the Conservatoire de l’Espace Littoral, this project, under management of the Ile de Ré Local Council offers a host of activities, which are provided by the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds).

There are permanent and temporary exhibitions themed around the fauna, flora and landscape of the island, housed in an old salt hangar, itself drenched in history.

Throughout the « Ré, île nature » experience, you are plunged far into the depths of the ocean in the company of northern gannets, seduced by the intoxicating perfumes of the dunes, penetrate deep into the pine and green oak forest … and so much more.

Family discovery games

There is fun for all ages, exploring the island’s biodiversity on a learning quest: you will find out about the villages’ biodiversity, the marshes, the foreshore, the dunes and the forest and become familiar with the animals and plants that inhabit them.  Hiding under a stone, suspended high in the air or in the waters of an aquarium, everywhere, a kingdom of animals and plants lays waiting for you to come and discover them.

An additional outdoor experience

And to complete your journey of discovery, come and explore the Nature Reserve!  The Ile de Ré branch of the LPO organises nature rambles and self-guided tours. These follow a footpath punctuated by stunning observation posts and translation points, that run the length of the Natural Reserve and the Fier d’Ars bay.  Look carefully, and you will observe the wildlife and plants you discovered in the museum in their natural habitat.
